Here is a tutorial I photographed around Christmas time, and totally forgot to put up here!
It is how to make fake flowers look half decent…. ?
And yes I know al lot of people are against fake flowers, as was I for quite a while, but let’s be serious, real flowers are expensive, take time to buy, arrange and really don’t last very long for all that effort. Yes, they are perfect for a special event, but at the moment…I’ve chosen artificial blooms to add some colour to my everyday…
You will need:
- A vase, urn, pot, basket etc… to put the flower arrangement in
- Florists foam (only a few dollars from a florist)
- Artificial flowers, foliage and I also used some berries
- Metel cutter/bender…’pliers’ I think they are called ?
- Aluminium foil
- Sharp knife
- Cutting board
Cut the florists foam into a size that will fit into your vase, then cover with aluminium foil to prevent it making a mess during its long life!
Cut the flowers apart with the metal cutters into usable, manuverable sections and lengths.
Then let your creative juices flow and start arranging! Poke the flower stems into the foam here and there and try to create a pleasing shape and structure. Make sure there are no gaps once you have finished!
I did a few different arrangements so that I can change it up depending on the season….
Pinks and creams to make it cozy in winter….
Red and white for Christmas…
And blues for summer…Pretty sure they are my favourite so far!!!
I guess my favourite thing is that they never die! No maintenance! Flowers that look fresh all year round ? Phew!
When the arrangements aren’t in use, I simply take the foam and flowers out of the urns still intact, and put them in big plastic bags and in a high cupboard to keep from getting dusty. I then put the new arrangement in the same urn.
What colours would you choose if you were to do this? Have I convinced you, or do you still hate fake flowers? I hope not! ?
